Description

This course will introduce students to major cases that helpeed shape medical ethics today. Cases on topics such as assisted reproduction, research on animals and humans, genetics, abortion, comas, and physician-assisted suicide will be discussed in class, not to debate what is right or wrong, but to discuss the ethical issues present in each. The specific theories or methods of analysis to be covered are: utilitarianism, case-based reasoning, and the principles of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice. Offered fall semesters.
