Description
Noting the importance of language acquistion for a child's physical, social and cognitive development, this course will discuss first and second-language acquisition in children. this course will also explore what is known about language acquistion vua bilingual brain research and throughh comparison explore various approaches and methods for learning vs. acquiring a language. Students will recieve a brief overview of effective bilingual models; the Englisg Language Development Standards; and learn how to idenify language proficiency levels. A major emphasis will be placed on using the student's first language to provide academic instruction for as long as possible and on using an active discovery approach to teaching and learning.
