Description

This course builds on cultural intervention frameworks to expand students’ knowledge and skills; enhance critical thinking; and equip them with practice skills to work across individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Informed by social justice principles, this course informs students’ understanding of the intersection of structural factors that contribute to persistent disparities to guide intervention planning in both rural and tribal contexts. Also, this course expands students’ ability to respect and understand cultural factors, including historical trauma and immigration experiences, which impact the well-being and quality of life. Throughout this course students gain skills in culturally responsive, evidence-based intervention models, such as the Generalist Intervention Model (GIM), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Prerequisite(s): Admission to the MSW program
