Description

This course will survey microskills, which are the foundation of good clinical practice, and ask students to gain mastery over basic counseling skills. Some examples of skills students will learn and apply include reflective listening, paraphrasing, validation, and accurate empathy. Students will also demonstrate mastery over risk assessment protocols and suicide prevention as a student-level helper. Prerequisite(s): Abnormal Psychology (PSY 420; also acceptable as a co-requisite)
