Transcript:

Hi there! My name is Jim Dugan, and I’ll be your instructor this semester. Feel free to call me Dr. Dugan or Jim, whichever you’re more comfortable with. I’ve been working at Heritage since 2020. I’m chair of the Department of Literature and Languages, as well as the instructional designer for the university. That means I help faculty members in every department with their curricula and instruction, and I provide guidance on how to incorporate technology tools effectively in online and face-to-face courses. I enjoy working at Heritage because of its important mission and because of the phenomenal students I get to interact with every day.

I currently live in Vancouver, Washington, which is essentially a suburb of Portland. I come to Toppenish once a month, so if you ever want to meet in person, let me know and I’ll schedule a meeting for us when I’m on campus. In the meantime, if you need anything at all, don’t hesitate to contact me. I can be reached via email at dugan_j@heritage.edu or by phone at (509) 907-2376.

I look forward to working with you this semester, and I hope you get a lot out of this class!

Description

Students will create a research proposal and outline intended to meet the requirements for ENG 598 - Thesis. The students will then complete initial drafts of the "Abstract," "Review of Literature," "Introduction," and "Methodology" sections for that research project using either the MLA (Modern Language Association) or APA (American Psychological Association) manuals for reference citations. While enrolled ENG 598A or prior, the student consults with the Program Chair to approve a thesis advisor. The student then identifies a topic in an area of interest approved by the thesis advisor. The student and the thesis advisor consult with Program Chair to appoint a committee of at least three persons (including the thesis advisor). The committee reviews and approves the proposal and research outline. However, no commitment is made that the proposal developed for this course can be applied toward meeting the requirements for ENG 598 . Prerequisite(s): ENG 553A. Students writing a thesis wit
